Statewide Licenses
States with LicensesWhat do you get with a statewide video license?Under a statewide video license, the purchaser (or their designee) has the right to record a master copy of the 25 episodes of Workplace Essential Skills and/or the 39 episodes of GED Connection (depending on which license is held) during a PBS satellite broadcast, or to secure, a set of master tapes from PBS. From the master tapes, the state may make unlimited copies of the video programs for every publicly funded adult basic education, workplace, or GED program in their state. Another benefit, for states with statewide licenses, is that the individual sites can purchase sets of tapes at significantly reduced prices from KET or record tapes from a PBS satellite broadcast. Individual sites can also make copies from the TV broadcast, although the copies made this way are not of the highest quality. Under each statewide license for Workplace Essential Skills and/or GED Connection, there is an automatic discount for purchases of that specific series' workbooks and videotapes. The Teacher's Guide (containing lesson plans for both Workplace Essential Skills and/or GED Connection) is not discounted. Statewide Video License: Educational Use Rights (for any public institution in the state)Specifically, rights granted to public institutions (school, library, community organization, etc.) under such a use license include:
What do you get with a statewide Online Management System license? The Online Management System gives local teachers access to their student's work in Workplace Essential Skills and/or the GED Connection lessons saved in an individual's online portfolio. Local program names appear at PBS LiteracyLink's Web site and adult learners choose their teachers by selecting an agency name in their state. Under that agency's name, local teachers have virtual classrooms. Each state should designate one or two teachers to coach all learners not affiliated with a program and participating only at a distance in that state. A state license for the Online Management System allows a state to give unlimited virtual classrooms to as many publicly funded, local programs and sites as they wish for the life of the license. Rights under this license include the right to reject or accept students according to the guidelines established by the local entity, respond electronically to the work the learner has placed in their online portfolio, communicate with learners through an internal email system so learners do not need their own external email account, and access student data. Before activating any virtual classrooms, PBS must first receive from the state the correct agency name for listing on the Web site. Then, a special PBS-issued access code can be distributed to each of those licensing agencies for distribution to their teachers. With a statewide license an unlimited number of teachers, using that agency code, can set up virtual classrooms online under that agency name. Programs in states without a statewide license can purchase an individual program license for per classroom annually. Multiple classrooms can be licensed for a discounted price |
